Acclaimed composer and song-writer Alan Menken was moved and speechless after a magic ride of concert festivities that culminated with standing ovations by Viennese audiences, while he received the Max Steiner Achievement Award by the City of Vienna. The award was handed to Alan by Viennese City Councillor Peter Hanke and Hollywood in Vienna Founder Sandra Tomek. The ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Michael Kosarin and musical performers lead by Broadway’s Susan Egan and Adam Jacobs performed during a brilliant and elegant concert in Menken’s honor.

Songwriter extraordinaire Diane Warren and operatic prima donna Anna Netrebko have been named the Laureates for the 2020 Polar Music Prize, to be presented in a ceremony at the Grand Hotel on June 9. Dolby Laboratories’ Dolby Institute and Sundance Institute, along with the Ray and Dagmar Dolby Family Fund, today announced that Honey Boy, directed by Alma Har’el and written by Shia LaBeouf, and The Sound of Silence, directed by Michael Tyburski and co-written by Ben Nabors and Michael Tyburski, have both received the Dolby Family Fellowship. The Fellowship offers recipients a wide array of post-production technologies including Dolby Atmos, and new this year, the addition of Dolby Vision to further amplify the filmmakers’ visions. Honey Boy will premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in Dolby Atmos at the Eccles Theatre on Friday January 25 at 3:30 p.m. MT, and the world premiere of The Sound of Silence takes place Saturday, January 26, in Dolby Atmos at the Ray Theater at 12:30 p.m. MT.

Disneyland’s version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the highly anticipated Star Wars-themed land, will open in summer of 2019, while Disney World’s version in Hollywood Studios will open later in Fall 2019. But while the grand opening of those lands are a little less than a year away, the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade just made that far, far away premiere date seem just a bit closer. The annual parade gave us a Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge sneak peek that will hold Star Wars fans over until the summer and fall 2019 debuts.

The “Blade Runner 2049” original score has been at the center of a mystery ever since Denis Villeneuve’s regular collaborator, Jóhann Jóhannsson, left the project over the summer and Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch came on board to replace him. Anyone who feared Zimmer’s involvement with the sequel would mean his usual bombast (see “Dunkirk” for the latest example) can rest easy, however, as the entire original score is now streaming online.
